When Dream Girl was first introduced (Adventure Comics #317, "The Menace of Dream Girl"), she had great character potential. She charmed the boys, pissed off the girls and then turned into a total shrew, having everyone on the team removed from active duty. Of course, it was all an act to protect the Legionnaires from a fiery death she had foreseen. It didn't work out so well for Dreamy though: turns out the dream was slightly off and she resigned out of nobility. Nura's character potential pretty much lay fallow after that story.
That was until Levitz's 1980s Legion run. Nura FINALLY got the character development that turned her into one of the most complex, well-written characters ever to be a Legionnaire. The above panel is from one of her greatest moments, when she annouces she's running for Legion leader.
The best part about Dreamy's development was although she became a strong leader and excellent tactician, she still played the "pouty-lipped vamp". She was so comfortable with who she was and what she could do that she really didn't give a damn what anybody else thought!
That's why I love Dream Girl!!
And in an homage to Scipio at The Absorbascon, here's a Dream Girl haiku:

Gosh her butt is just so...so shiny!
And the really awesome thing about that election was that, like all the elections in that era, voted by the readers. And Nura won. In other words, the readers wanted her to be leader. And Levitz ran with it brilliantly.
Nura will always be my favourite girl Legionnaire because of what Levitz did with her.

WOW, what a trip! I finally researched my name (as well as my brothers) on the internet and find out we're named after super hero characters. My name is Nura-nal, my older brother's name is Jor-el & younger brother is Mon-el. Just got through reading some of the comics briefly on line of each of our characters and I am soooooo stoked to FINALLY know where our name originated from(since it was pointed out to me by a computer tech on the phone while fixing my computer 4 years ago). It was pointed out to me again recently and I have to say that it's a little scary reading about my character because I have similar characteristics she posess. I'm no super hero....but now a NEW fan of my name (DREAM GIRL). I like my character & wish to someday see an animated comic picture of the three of us in it on tv ;-) Mahalo~Nura-nal
